Worship
Sunday Services
We welcome one and all to our congregation and our worship life, regardless
of your previous religious affiliation.  At RPC you will find a church family that
seeks to understand their lives in relation to God's love and direction.  We
seek that understanding through worship, where we gather to pray, to sing,
and to hear God's word.  In our congregation we welcome all ages to worship.
Sunday morning worship is at 10:00.  Sunday School classes are available for
all ages during the months of September to May.  Childcare is available
beginning at 8:45 a.m.
Samples of recent sermons are available for download.

Worship Preview
February 28  Deuteronomy 26:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13   “Lenten Power Plays”
What temptations press upon us during this Lenten season, and how are they
similar to what the Hebrews experienced in the wilderness? How does Jesus
reverse the performance of the Hebrews?

March 7  Esther 8:1-17, Philippians 4:1-9  “The Courage to Lead”   What role
does the Bible call women to play and how do we as Christians honor their
gifts? What is the church's duty when faced with issues of women's rights?
Seminary Intern Melissa Gilbert will preach today, and we will share
Communion.  We will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Preschool
Ministry today.

March 14
Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32   “Presbyterian Older Brothers”
Presbyterians rarely have catastrophic/dramatic conversion stories. We are
usually like the steady older brother in the story. So, how should this character
understand his relationship with his younger (prodigal) brother, or with God?

March 21  Philippians 3:4b-14  “Confirmation Sunday”   Today’s “sermon” will
focus on what issues of faith are most pressing for our confirmation class of
2010. They will also be received as new members during worship.

March 28  Luke 19:28-44  “Sheep of the Good Shepherd”   Why does Jesus
weep over the city on Palm Sunday? What did he think of their reception for
him?  How do we receive Jesus’s Spirit amongst us today?

April 1  Maundy Thursday at 7:00 p.m. with Communion by Intinction

April 2  Ecumenical Good Friday at noon (location to be determined)

April 4  Easter Sunday Worship Services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. (no
Sunday School today). Luke 24:1-12

Presbyterian Worship at the British and Scottish Homes
Every first Sunday at 1:30, residents gather at the British Home for worship led
by the Deacons.  Every third Sunday at 2:00 p.m., residents and guests at the
Scottish Home enjoy a worship service led by our Pastor Scott.  All are
welcome at both services.

Music Ministry
Music is a vital part of worship at RPC.  All members of the church take part in
our music ministry:  singing hymns, chants, and spirituals as a congregation.
Our musical offerings to God are a reflection of our praise and worship.  The
arts and religious faith together create the power and capacity to lift the
human spirit and articulate the mysticism of the eternal God.  See
Music for
more information about opportunities to participate in our Music Ministry.

Liturgists
The Worship Committee has recently adopted new policies for the Liturgist
(formerly "participating elder").  The new Liturgist need not be an elder.  The
Liturgist now has nothing to invent--all words will be written by Scott and need
only be read with feeling.  Also, those words will not include any difficult
Hebrew or Greek names since the Liturgist is no longer reading the Scripture
lesson.  So, it's a much easier job and it's now open to ANYONE.  If you would
be willing to take a turn at Liturgist, please contact Martha Heine.

Weddings
We understand that a wedding is a religious event. For information about
having your wedding at RPC, refer to our
Wedding Guide.

Flowers for Worship
We welcome your gift of flowers to enhance worship. Flowers may be donated
in memory of a loved one, in remembrance of a special occasion, to the glory
of God or for a celebration you wish to recognize. A sign up poster is outside
the main office where you may sign up for a particular Sunday, or you may
contact the
church office. There are two arrangements and you may take one
or both home with you, or the deacons will deliver the bouquets to sick
members, shut-ins and to families with new babies.  The cost for the flowers is
$50.
