Worship
Sunday Services
We welcome one and all to our congregation and our worship life, regardless
of your previous religious affiliation.  At RPC you will find a church family that
seeks to understand their lives in relation to God's love and direction.  We
seek that understanding through worship, where we gather to pray, to sing,
and to hear God's word.  In our congregation we welcome all ages to worship.
Sunday morning worship is at 10:00.  Sunday School classes are available for
all ages during the months of September to May.  Childcare is available
beginning at 8:45 a.m.
Samples of recent sermons are available for download.

Worship Preview
February 5  Isaiah 40:21-31 "God’s Campout" When Isaiah tries to teach
some basics about God, he uses images like tents, stars, eagles, and
grasshoppers. How do we get in touch with the natural world enough to relate
to Isaiah’s way of understanding God? Today we will also have Scout Sunday
and will celebrate Holy Communion.

February 12  Today we will have a guest preacher from Colombia named
Rev. Angelica Munera. She is currently studying at McCormick Seminary, but
will take some time out to share her experiences with us today as part of our
congregation's CSLA connection.

February 19
2 Kings 2:1-12 "I Will Not Leave You" In a world full of
transience, where do we find something that is reliable? Why does Elijah
discourage his apprentice from following him? Why does Elisha not obey?
Would we stay committed to a relationship if there were reasons to quit it?
What about God? Today we will have Bible Presentation Sunday for the kids
receiving their Bibles, and we will talk about the long-lasting reliability of the
messages found in the Bible.

February 22  Ash Wednesday Family Worship 7:00 p.m. This service will
include some informal congregational discussion about the Ash Wednesday
scripture passages, confession of sins, the imposition of ashes, and
communion with intinction (no "adult" sermon).  Also, come at 6:00 p.m. for our
family potluck prior to the worship service.

February 26  1 Peter 3:13-22 "Squirming Through Lent" We begin Lent with
the embarrassing sign of ashes on our foreheads. Often, through Lent, we try
to live extra holy lives, but we are embarrassed by those who would mock our
efforts. How do we endure the mockery of those who do not share our
resolve? Today is the first Sunday in Lent.

Presbyterian Worship at the British and Scottish Homes
Every first Sunday at 1:30, residents gather at the British Home for worship led
by the Deacons.  Every third Sunday at 2:00 p.m., residents and guests at the
Scottish Home enjoy a worship service led by our Pastor Scott.  All are
welcome at both services.

Music Ministry
Music is a vital part of worship at RPC.  All members of the church take part in
our music ministry:  singing hymns, chants, and spirituals as a congregation.
Our musical offerings to God are a reflection of our praise and worship.  The
arts and religious faith together create the power and capacity to lift the
human spirit and articulate the mysticism of the eternal God.  See
Music for
more information about opportunities to participate in our Music Ministry.

Liturgist and Acolyte
The Liturgist leads the Congregation in worship and may be any member,
junior high or older.  All words will be written by Pastor Scott and need only be
read with feeling.

The Acolyte brings in the light of Christ, brings forward the Sunday School
offering, and takes out the light of Christ.  Youth from fourth grade and older
are encouraged to participate in this role.

Funerals and Memorials
The church stands with those who grieve and lifts their prayers up to God in
worship. For more information on policies, please refer to our
Funeral Guide.

Weddings
We understand that a wedding is a religious event. For information about
having your wedding at RPC, refer to our
Wedding Guide.

Flowers for Worship
We welcome your gift of flowers to enhance worship. Flowers may be donated
in memory of a loved one, in remembrance of a special occasion, to the glory
of God or for a celebration you wish to recognize. A sign up poster is outside
the main office where you may sign up for a particular Sunday, or you may
contact the
church office. There are two arrangements and you may take one
or both home with you, or the deacons will deliver the bouquets to sick
members, shut-ins and to families with new babies.  The cost for the flowers is
$50.
